How long have you worked at your company?
I have been a member of the Envision team for about two and a half years. I’ve been working in the industry, though, for roughly 20 years.
How would you describe your role/job?
In my role with Envision I oversee corporate communications, client relationships, proposal writing and production, qualification package development, networking for new business development, and everything in between.
What are the rewards of your job?
The friendships I’ve found in this industry have been the best part to me. I have made so many along the way. This is certainly a relationship business, and I think that is why it has worked so well for me.
What are the most notable challenges working in this industry?
The gender imbalance has been tough at times, but I think that’s getting much better. I’m really encouraged by the diversity we’re seeing in this industry, and so impressed by the wonderful women making an impact in this space.
What has been your most meaningful project?
It’s really hard to point to just one! They all feel really important and meaningful at the time, so it’s honestly a major thrill to see big things through as I go.
How long have you been an SMPS member?
I joined SMPS while working at R&O Construction, almost 20 years ago. My boss at the time was a wonderful mentor and she encouraged me to join. I’m forever grateful for that opportunity.
What is your role on the Board?
Director of Programs
What led you to serve on the Board?
Stephanie Ray, our current Past President of the Board, rang me up after serving as a volunteer on a couple of committees. She encouraged me to apply for a Board position. It’s been so great for connecting with my fellow members better, especially through the challenges of the pandemic.
How has SMPS membership helped you?
The education, the network, the friendships—there is just so much value in SMPS. It’s immeasurable for me.
What’s on your bucket list?
I love to travel, so anywhere exotic and beautiful is certainly high up there. Especially after being homebound with the pandemic.
What was a childhood dream of yours?
I don’t know that I really had one. I always strove for success and independence and had strong female mentors and inspirations around me. Being confident, capable, successful, and just enjoying life has always driven my choices.
Guilty pleasure: what can you not live without?
Family and friends first and foremost, then chips and salsa and Netflix docuseries. Either separate or together will work for me!
Any other tidbits about your life you might be willing to share?
I will age myself a little here … but I have a ten-year-old granddaughter! She’s intelligent and beautiful, and I’m so grateful to have a chance to play this “grandma” role.
