Looking Ahead: SMPS Utah’s 2025–2028 Strategic Plan
At SMPS Utah, we believe in the power of connection, education, and leadership to strengthen not only our members but the entire A/E/C community. As we look to the future, we are excited to share our 2025–2028 Strategic Plan—a roadmap that will guide our chapter over the next three years. The SMPS Utah Board aligned our chapter strategic plan with SMPS HQ for consistency.
This plan is designed with one purpose: to elevate, educate, and empower our members while expanding our impact across Utah. It focuses on three core initiatives that will ensure SMPS Utah continues to deliver meaningful value, foster leadership, and strengthen our industry.
Initiative 1: Building Future Leaders
The strength of SMPS Utah depends on our people. To ensure continuity and growth, we are intentionally investing in mentoring, leadership development, and volunteer engagement.
Members will see:
- More opportunities to get involved through a Committee Opportunities Guide and semi-annual “Get Involved” campaigns.
- Clearer volunteer roles and expectations to make participation easier and more rewarding.
- Recognition for contributions, from acknowledgments at events to a digital volunteer wall.
- Leadership training and succession planning to prepare today’s volunteers to become tomorrow’s leaders.
Initiative 2: Expanding Our Reach
SMPS Utah is more than Salt Lake City. Our vision is to serve professionals across the state and connect with aligned industry organizations to amplify our impact.
This will include:
- Hybrid and virtual events to make learning accessible to all, no matter where members live.
- Partnerships with organizations like ACEC, AIA, AGC, and CREW to co-host events and strengthen collaboration.
- Outreach to underserved regions, including St. George, Logan, and Ogden, with programs tailored to those communities.
Initiative 3: Elevating Programs & Demonstrating Value
We know our members join SMPS to learn, grow, and connect. That’s why we’re committed to raising the bar for the quality and relevance of our programs while also showcasing the real return on investment membership provides.
Here’s how:
- Consistent, member-focused events supported by an Event Planning Toolkit and member survey data.
- Stronger promotion and visibility through testimonials, highlight reels, and cross-promotion with partners.
- Opportunities for member-driven innovation, including surveys and annual idea-thons.
- Tangible ROI reports and success stories to highlight the benefits of membership.

This plan isn’t just about strategy—it’s about people. It’s about giving every SMPS Utah member the tools, connections, and opportunities to thrive. By focusing on leadership development, expanded reach, and elevated programming, we are building a chapter that delivers lasting value to every member, firm, and community we touch.
