How would you describe your role/job?
Evolving. I spent the first 10 years growing the business, focusing our culture, Building a PreConstruction team, growing strategic relationships, etc. Now I’m focusing further upstream, planning the next 10 years.
What are the rewards of your job?
Growing relationships which change things.
What are your challenges?
Growth has meant my role has changed dramatically. It’s been difficult to go from touching everything, to being more focused. Letting go of things I’ve created, for others to take over has been really tough for me.
What has been your most meaningful project?
I haven’t done it yet.
What’s the best career advice you’ve received?
“You can’t be too proud to get [blank]'s business.”
What’s the best career advice you’ve given?
“You gotta either be cheaper, or you gotta be better. And there’s no money in being cheaper.”
What has contributed to your success?
Taking a longer view than anybody else. Perspective.
What's on your bucket list?
I’d like to make a retirement-living with horses. I’ve literally lived everything else on my bucket list already.
What was your childhood dream?
To Race a Ferrari, and to sing a solo in a packed cathedral. (Yes, I’ve done both)
