How long have you worked at your company?
18 years
What are the rewards of your job?
I love strategizing, creating and writing — and sharing the excitement of a win with my coworkers! It’s also very rewarding to see a project that I worked on come to life. Having a positive impact on my community through the buildings that Jacobsen constructs means a lot to me.
What are your challenges?
Time. I wish I had more of it.
How long have you been an SMPS member?
8 years.
What led you to serve on the Board?
I wanted to give back to an organization that had enhanced my career in so many ways. Serving on committees and the board has really helped me create meaningful connections and make the most of my SMPS membership.
How has SMPS membership helped you?
SMPS Utah’s community, educational resources and leadership opportunities have helped take my career to the next level. I’m honored to be part of such an amazing group of like-minded colleagues!
What’s the best career advice you’ve received?
The best career advice I have received is to create my own opportunities to learn about the “product” I am “selling”. One of my mentors told me that I needed to be proactive and ask to attend project meetings, ask to tag along on site visits, take technical staff to lunch and ask them to explain their projects to me in terms that I can understand. These simple activities have provided me the most valuable education I have received during my career.
What’s the best career advice you’ve received?
You can be an influential leader in many different ways. You don’t have to be the loudest person in the room to be powerful. Find and own your power — then use it to have a positive impact on your career and organization!
What’s the best career advice you’ve given?
Be curious and ask questions. Continuous learning allows you to be more flexible and adaptable in your career.
What’s on your bucket list?
Travel, travel and more travel!
