Three years
What are the rewards of your job?
Being able to help promote and support a company that is helping to improve our community. Utah is experiencing incredible growth, which has put a significant strain on resources. I love working with so many people that are dedicated to finding solutions to help improve the quality of life.
What are your challenges?
I have the opportunity to wear many different hats, and our company works in many different sectors, making it tricky to balance everything. Our industry is booming right now, which is great, but it makes meeting deadlines and keeping everyone moving forward challenging.
How long have you been an SMPS member?
Two years
What led you to serve on the Board?
Linda asking was the first in a combination of factors that played a role. I always try and help whenever possible, and I’m fortunate to work for a company with leadership that encourages us to be involved, so when Linda asked, I looked at the timing, and everything seemed to line up and allowed me to try and serve the SMPS Utah members a little.
How has SMPS membership helped you?
Being a part of SMPS has helped me in different ways to better myself and move my career forward. The most significant benefit is quickly connecting with many great people within the A/E/C community. The people I have associated with, combined with what I have learned from the education events and obtaining the CPSM certification, have been huge for me.
What’s the best career advice you’ve received?
Don't let the pursuit of perfection prevent progress.
What’s one of your favorite business books?
Extreme Ownership: How U.S. Navy SEALs Lead and Win
What’s one of your favorite non-business books?
I don’t read a lot of books, but my daughter highly recommends Wings of Fire.
What’s on your bucket list?
I'm pretty basic, so my bucket list is probably simpler than most people's. I want to do an African safari but would be just as happy to help my family check off some of their bucket list items, like going to Scotland (wife), Paris (both daughters), and Disneyland again (son).
