How long have you worked in the AEC Industry?
22 years in AEC industry; 8 years with Design West.
What are the rewards of your job?
I love to see a building rise out of the ground that I had a small part in bringing into existence. It’s even more rewarding when I know the backstory of why it’s important to our client and how it will benefit them or the community.
What are your challenges?
Managing the stress and demands of this deadline-driven job is challenging while also maintaining the elusive work/life balance.
How long have you been an SMPS member?
15 years.
What led you to serve on the Board?
This year I wanted to bring our SMPS Utah members back to in-person Education events to encourage networking and idea sharing as we learn. My goal was to “elevate our offerings” with high quality speakers that would share new perspectives and skills with our members.
How has SMPS membership helped you?
SMPS membership was the vehicle for my professional career growth.
What’s the best career advice you’ve received?
It’s such a small industry: you never know who will next be your client, so treat everyone with respect.
What’s the best career advice you’ve given?
Know your worth; you have a skill set that technical staff do not. You are the clients’ advocate, so think from your clients’ perspective and help your team do the same.

Horseback riding on the Appian Way.
