How would you describe your role/job?
After working with VBFA’s marketing team for several years, I have recently added a new role leading sustainability efforts for the firm, ensuring we are on the forefront of industry trends in sustainable design engineering, and helping our clients meet their sustainability goals.
What are the rewards of your job?
Constantly learning new things, working with many different people and teams, seeing first-hand the innovative and creative ways people find solutions to the challenges of energy efficient design.
What are your challenges?
Juggling all the things, measuring progress and impact, public perception.
What has been your most meaningful project?
This is hard to define, but I’m really looking forward to seeing the progression of U Health’s new hospital in West Valley City and how the team achieves the project’s sustainability goals.
How has SMPS membership helped you?
Being involved in SMPS has helped me meet and learn from industry leaders and peers. I have found the quality of programs and events to be excellent, and it has helped me understand the specifics of marketing in the AEC industry.
What’s the best career advice you’ve received?
Use your passion to drive the work that needs to be done to benefit your organization.
What’s on your bucket list?
Too many things to list, but here are a few: stargazing in Milford Sound, New Zealand; seeing the Northern Lights in Norway; climbing 1,480 steps to visit the ruins of Dracula’s castle in Romania; island hopping in Greece. Oh, and creating a zero-waste home.
What was your childhood dream?
Become a zookeeper.

Mrs. Hewitt’s gluten-free sugar cookies.
