Name: Mary DeMann
Title:  Marketing Manager
Company:  VBFA

Role in SMPS?  No role yet… but…I would love to help with membership or registration.

How long have you worked at your company? I am very new with VBFA, it’s only been about 1 week, but it’s been fantastic so far.

How long have you been an SMPS member? I believe it’s been a week as well.

What are the rewards of your job? The many connections I make with incredible people and the amount of knowledge I am learning between the various industries.

What are your challenges? Remembering all the new faces I am meeting, if you see me, please introduce yourself and please don’t be offended if I need you to remind me of your name.

How has SMPS membership helped you? SMPS has already taught me so much.  The meeting with Keri Hammond on April 15th was a perfect introduction to the industry. That program was packed with knowledge and advice for each sector of the AEC industry.

What’s the best career advice you’ve received?   Abraham Lincoln gave some great advice, although not to me directly.  He said, “Whatever you are, be a good one”.  That advice rings true to me on so many levels.

What’s the best career advice you’ve given? Consider your audience and don’t be afraid to change your approach.
What has contributed to your success?  Being so new to this industry I don’t have an incredible success story yet.  I do have an amazing mentor at VBFA, I believe that under Lori Haglund’s wing I will see many successful moments in my career.

What was your childhood dream? As a child I dreamt of being a talk show host, but because I could balance on a basketball really well, I was worried that I was destined to be in the circus. I’m afraid to say it, but marketing can sometimes feel like I am a talk show host in a circus.

Guilty pleasure:  It’s hard to narrow this down to just 1 guilty pleasure… but, if I must... Plants, I have a ridiculously embarrassing amount of plants.
