Eric Larson, Marketing and Proposal Manager | CRS Engineering and Surveying
Eric Larson is a newer member at SMPS, currently on the Programs Committee. He is currently pursuing CPSM certification, and he values adaptation, simple solutions, finding balance among a wide range of sectors, and learning everything he can while seeking client success.

How would you describe your role/job?
Leading the marketing and BD efforts, including proposals, digital initiatives, and branding.
What are the rewards of your job?
I get to wear a lot of different hats. One day it's updating branding, another is proposal coordination. Additionally, our company is involved in multiple sectors, so we work with various technical experts in a wide range of sectors. The variety makes my job more enjoyable, and I find it rewarding to help the company in so many areas.
What are your challenges?
Working in so many different sectors and helping on various projects can make it tricky to balance everything. Meeting deadlines and keeping everyone moving forward can be a challenge at times.
What has been your most meaningful project?
Years ago, working as a graphic designer, we had a small business that couldn't get the look they wanted due to cost and printing automation issues with the templates we used. They asked (even complained) for more than a year about it. I was switched onto their account and was able to find a way to give the business a look they wanted while still utilizing their existing template constraints. It was a unique, but simple solution that gave them more confidence in the marketing team's abilities and created an advocate for our department.
How has SMPS membership helped you?
SMPS has helped me quickly grow and improve my abilities in the A/E/C industry. My professional network has also greatly expanded thanks to SMPS. It has been great to interact with people who face similar challenges and to be able to collaborate and even team up with them.
What’s the best career advice you’ve received?
Don’t let the pursuit of perfection prevent progress.
What’s the best career advice you’ve given?
Not advice, but letting our team try new things and learn from the experiences. You don't have to be afraid to make a mistake if you learn from it.
What has contributed to your success?
Being adaptable and embracing the challenge of learning new things is what I think has helped me the most in my career. I have always taken pride in being able to jump in and help, even if it means I must learn something new.
What’s on your bucket list?
An African safari and doing as many off-road trails as possible with our UTV.
What was your childhood dream?
Play in the NBA
