How long have you been an SMPS member?
3 months
How would you describe your role/job?
My role is a team facilitator in gathering and organizing information in such a way to help our organization stand out as the top architect of choice for our clients and customers. My job requires attention to detail, hyperfocus, and problem-solving skills.
What are the rewards of your job?
I enjoy being able to meet and work with many different people, and I enjoy constantly learning more about the industry and developing my knowledge and skills. It is also rewarding to play a role in helping our organization win work and continue to be successful.
What are your challenges?
Managing proposal deadlines can be stressful. Sometimes you don’t get the information you need, sometimes there are long hours, and sometimes unexpected issues can come up in the eleventh hour such as printer problems.
How has SMPS membership helped you?
Being a member provides a built in support system that goes beyond simple networking opportunities. Marketing is a specific niche of work that is sometimes difficult to explain to someone who isn’t a marketing professional. It’s nice to be a part of a community who understands the ins and outs of tracking down obscure project details, working crazy hours to meet deadlines, and always trying to make sure all documentation aligns with company branding.
What’s the best career advice you’ve received?
You deserve to want what you want in your career. Keep working for it. Be humble and show others how to respect you.
What’s the best career advice you’ve given?
Get yourself out of a situation or company that costs you your peace. If you don’t make yourself a priority, no one will.
What has contributed to your success?
My success, in large part, comes from the incredible mentors I’ve had in my life and career. I’ve been lucky to meet, work with, and learn from many incredible people in different industries who have influenced who I am today.
What’s on your bucket list?
I want to visit all seven continents.
What was your childhood dream?
I wanted to be an astronaut and go to space.
Guilty pleasure: what can you not live without?
I cannot live without music and always have my airpods and/or noise cancelling Bluetooth headphones with me wherever I go.
