President's Message, September 2023
September is a bittersweet month for SMPS. It’s the month where one board year ends and another begins. As summer winds down, we get another opportunity to express our appreciation to Linda Hansen for leading our chapter last year and thank outgoing board members Nicole Marshall, Brittney Boyle, Kim Johnson, Suela Kaufman, and Cynthia Re’mine, for their service and sacrifice. But we also get to welcome new board members Rolynne Hendricks, Julee Attig, Kylee Cabe, Stephanie Ray, and Andi Wilson who will be joining our returning board members, Kellie Goddard, LV Hayes, Eric Larson, Sarah Kapp, and Keri Hammond.
What an incredible group! All of them! This is a dynamic organization and I’m excited and energized by the new group of leadership that is joining the board and our committees. Isaac Newton famously said, “If I have seen further, it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.” 2023–2024 is going to be an incredible year for SMPS Utah. We will be standing on the shoulders of the giants that have come before us as well as the giants around us and doing what we can to “see further” and do more. Our incoming board is committed to keeping our strategic plan at the forefront of all we do and ensuring that our chapter continues to provide a diverse community for A/E/C professionals to grow, engage, and innovate.
I hope you’ve had a chance to attend some of our events over the past year and have found them to be engaging, educational, and inspiring. Additionally, I hope you’ve found the networking opportunities to be beneficial, creating meaningful connections with others in the industry. Next year’s calendar planning is underway, and you can expect more great events. If you have ideas on topics that would be of interest to you or your firm, please reach out to me or any board member. Keep your eye out for our events to kick off on September 13th with our Education Program.
Thank you for the opportunity to serve as your president. It is truly an honor. I am humbled by the leadership of our board members, committee chairs and committee members and amazed at the talented members we have in our chapter. Our group is filled with members who are welcoming to all and full of positive energy. These are the things that make our chapter one of the best and things we’ll be building upon for the entire year! It’s going to be AWESOME!
