How long have you been an SMPS member?
Since April 2024—I recently transferred from SMPS Boston.
Role in SMPS?
I recently joined the education committee, and am excited to get more involved.
How long have you worked at your company?
I have been at Io LandArch for just over a month, and have been living in Utah for only 2 months (I moved from Boston in September)!
What are the rewards of your job?
Working at a woman-owned small business is incredibly rewarding in and of itself. However, I also love that I get to share project stories and amplify the amazing work of my colleagues. I have a background in and passion for Urban Studies and English in addition to Marketing, so Io's emphasis on weaving culture, nature, and place together in each of their projects is something I find very compelling. On the day to day, I also appreciate the variety in my role, since I am responsible for all marketing efforts across the company.
What are your challenges?
The variety and scope of my role is both a reward and a challenge! Navigating the many aspects of my role and the different channels we have for reaching our goals is not easy, but I am already learning so much.
How has SMPS membership helped you?
Chapter education and training sessions, as well as online resources have supported me as I have grown in my career, and have encouraged my appetite for continuous learning. It has also been wonderful to meet fellow marketers who have similar challenges to me; the camaraderie is needed and so appreciated!
What is the best career advice you've received?
Some of the best career advice I have received was from a former manager, who commended me for knowing what I wanted and having the courage to make it happen. It isn't easy, and often takes quite a bit of work and waiting, but finding a role that is fulfilling and right for you, both personally and professionally, is ultimately so rewarding.
What has contributed to your success?
Collaboration!
What was your childhood dream?
As a child, I thought I would be an architect, but as I went through high school and college, I realized I enjoy the storytelling and marketing side of the industry too much! I ultimately still landed in the design world but I am not doing the type of work I thought I would be doing when I was younger.
Guilty pleasure: what can you not live without?
Dark chocolate and the occasional oat milk cappuccino!
