How long have you been an SMPS member?
Not sure. I used to be on the board when I was younger. Probably around 10 years total.
How long have you worked at your company?
20 years
How would you describe your role/job?
Leading a team of 35 people in marketing communications and strategy, visualization, technical documents, and proposal production.
What are the rewards of your job?
Building up teams to win, mentoring and helping with career pathing on my team, working with awesome people to improve our communities.
What are your challenges?
Continuing to gain equity for marketing staff (as well as women) in the AEC industry.
What has been your most meaningful project?
Building up this amazing marketing team! But also, I’m really proud of our work on Bangerter Highway.
How has SMPS membership helped you?
When I was younger, it helped me understand the industry better and network with other people like me. Now, I look forward to mentoring and coaching others coming up in their career.
What is the best career advice you've received?
Taking ownership of every task you do and having passion for your role, no matter what it is. Lead from any seat!
What’s the best career advice you’ve given?
You can’t sell what you don’t know. Get in and learn everything there is to learn about the business you are in and apply that knowledge through your lens of skills.
What has contributed to your success?
Being a team player and being able to art direct and story tell. Oh … and my husband and mom helping me raise the kids. Hard to be a successful businesswoman and mother without support.
What’s on your bucket list?
Honing my fine art skills.
What was your childhood dream?
To write and illustrate children’s books.
Guilty pleasure: what can you not live without?
Books! I love to read and can’t imagine not having books stacked all over the place.
